The Educational Research Centre has just finished piloting our new online testing system and three new sets of tests. This was the first time that our computer-based testing system was used in post-primary schools. In total, 24 schools took part, with over 800 students taking our updated and expanded Drumcondra Reasoning Test, and a further 700 taking our new standardised tests of reading and mathematics, targeted at Second Year students. After a few initial technical problems, testing went relatively smoothly. Most students responded very positively to an online delivery method, preferring it to traditional, paper-based test formats.
Staff at the Centre will now analyse the test data and identify the most suitable content to include in the final versions of the tests, which will be standardised in spring. Our technical developers will examine how the computer system responded to being used in real-life, school situations, and try to improve the user experience based on feedback from students and teachers
